Terms of use

These terms cover the FolderSafe apps, this website and the services at foldersafe.app. They are short on purpose.

Last updated: 2026-10-23

In short

  • FolderSafe is free to use, personally and at work.
  • Your password and recovery phrase are yours alone. If you lose both, nobody can recover your data.
  • FolderSafe is provided as is. Encryption is not a backup: keep backups.

Using FolderSafe

You may use FolderSafe for personal and commercial purposes at no charge. Don't use the website or the foldersafe.app services in a way that harms them or other people, for example by flooding them with requests or sending abusive content through the feedback service.

App Store versions

If you get FolderSafe from Apple's App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for FolderSafe or for supporting it.

Your keys, your responsibility

FolderSafe has no back door, no account and no way to reset your password for you. If you lose both your password and your recovery phrase, nobody, including us, can recover your data. Keep the recovery phrase somewhere safe and keep backups of your vaults.

No warranty

FolderSafe is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. No software is free of bugs, and encryption does not protect against deletion or hardware failure.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss of data, loss of profits or any indirect or consequential damages arising from the use of FolderSafe. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Open format

The vault format specification is published under CC BY 4.0, and anyone may implement it. The FolderSafe name and icon are not covered by that license.

Export and local laws

FolderSafe uses standard encryption. You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you when you download or use it.
